SURAT: A heated discussion turning ugly has become the order of the day for
BJP. The latest instance was on Thursday during the co-ordination committee meeting for items on agenda in the standing committee. The issue was construction of polymeric roads in the city.
On the decision of co-ordination committee, the work was postponed for a week by the standing committee.
City BJP president Purnesh Modi was not present in the meeting when the topic came up, but committee members were told that he had approved of it and other members should okay it. This led to a heated discussion between general secretary K K Patel and the standing committee chairman. Things got out of hand when Patel lambasted the city president and his style of functioning in the forum.
Patel said the president could not dictate terms to others. According to him, it was decided to take a call on the issue after making site visits, which was not done.
A member present in the meeting told TOI, "A storm is brewing in the inner circles against Modi. Many are unhappy with his undemocratic style of functioning. So when Patel got a chance, he blasted Modi." He added, "We all are fed up of his autocratic style of functioning."
Patel accepted that heated discussion took place. "These sorts of discussions are very common when we are discussing in party fora. But, there is nothing more to it." However he added, "No one likes one person's autocratic style of functioning."
City party president, who was out of the city for a couple of days, did not pick up the phone. But another member said, "The real purpose of co-ordination is not served if city president is going to take all the decisions and inform us of just approving it. Things don't work this way in party fora."
